Hello!

Hello, I'm Matt Reason and welcome to the JOGLE for Alzheimer's blog for my cycle ride from John 'O' Groats to Land's End. I hope to withstand around 1000 miles (the route is not yet decided) of saddle sore and the unpredictable British weather, all in aid of the Alzheimer's Society. I intend to raise at least £1000 with the desire to help and improve the care of Alzheimer's patients in Britain and fund vital research. Information about Alzheimer's society and what they do can be found here at www.alzheimers.org.uk . I understand that £1000 pounds will only have a small impact but with your help I hope to reach and exceed that target and maybe some people will be inspired to raise money or donate themselves. You can donate online using my secure JustGiving page here and feel free to support me by joining my facebook page

This blog will be updated frequently with information about the planning (ie. the route) and fundraising.

I have chosen Alzheimer's as my cause because the sufferers and their families do not receive the support or care they deserve. Unlike cancer an Alzheimers patient does not get a path to follow in a noble fight against the disease, they are seen as old and senile and there is little help available to them accept that of their own families and charities like the Alzheimer's Society.

Inspiration and drive to achieve my target and raise money for Alzheimers comes from two places. Terry Pratchett, the creator of the Discworld Novels and in my opinion one of the greatest authors alive today has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimers. The way in which he has spoke out about his condition made me realise how poor and underfunded care and research are. Also, while at a young age I have seen a family member suffer the awful effects of Alzheimers.
